Beware Of The False 082611

Each of us receives so many media impressions each day, that it is difficult to filter out the false messages, the greedy messages and the hateful messages. Recent human progress seems to measure itself in how many new, diverse and expensive means we each have access to that it is easy to start running too fast, with messages flooding us from every direction. Should I text you this message? Message you on Facebook? Tweet it? E-mail it? Instant message it? Call? Post it on a billboard? Advertise it on radio or TV?

Maybe there’s a rule of physics somewhere that says if you receive more and more messages they will become less and less true, and less and less worthwhile.

As an experiment, trying going without media and messages for a day. The quiet is wonderful! Lately, we lost electric power for an afternoon, and the heat was horrible, but the quiet was wonderful. Even the normal hum of a refrigerator and the freezer were gone. We heard a bird near the front porch we’d not heard before, and we found there was a breeze after all!

Maybe we need quiet to hear the true message, the quiet gentle voice of Jesus Christ.

Pray to hear, and pray to be quiet. Pray that we we can hear hear the false as false.

Pray for peace,

(brother) Bill

Psalm 26

1Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity, and I have trusted in the Lord without wavering.

2Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and mind.

3For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in faithfulness to you.

4I do not sit with the worthless, nor do I consort with hypocrites;

5I hate the company of evildoers, and will not sit with the wicked.

6I wash my hands in innocence, and go around your altar, O Lord,

7singing aloud a song of thanksgiving, and telling all your wondrous deeds.

8O Lord, I love the house in which you dwell, and the place where your glory abides.

Exodus 3:16-25

16Go and assemble the elders of Israel, and say to them, ‘The Lord, the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying: I have given heed to you and to what has been done to you in Egypt. 17I declare that I will bring you up out of the misery of Egypt, to the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, a land flowing with milk and honey.’ 18They will listen to your voice; and you and the elders of Israel shall go to the king of Egypt and say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us; let us now go a three days’ journey into the wilderness, so that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.’ 19I know, however, that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless compelled by a mighty hand. 20So I will stretch out my hand and strike Egypt with all my wonders that I will perform in it; after that he will let you go. 21I will bring this people into such favor with the Egyptians that, when you go, you will not go empty-handed; 22each woman shall ask her neighbor and any woman living in the neighbor’s house for jewelry of silver and of gold, and clothing, and you shall put them on your sons and on your daughters; and so you shall plunder the Egyptians.”

2 Thessalonians 2:7-12

7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, but only until the one who now restrains it is removed. 8And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will destroy with the breath of his mouth, annihilating him by the manifestation of his coming. 9The coming of the lawless one is apparent in the working of Satan, who uses all power, signs, lying wonders, 10and every kind of wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion, leading them to believe what is false, 12so that all who have not believed the truth but took pleasure in unrighteousness will be condemned.
